2008 West Surrey Teach-in

Grateful thanks for sponsorship from BingoLotto, which permitted the teach-in entry fee to be halved.

More thanks to teachers Tony Atkins (Corner invasions), Nick Krempel (Life and death of common shapes), Paul Barnard (How to study Joseki), and Sam Aitken (Invasion and reduction of side extensions). An enjoyable and worthwhile day was had by the pupils who attended.

2008 West Surrey Handicap Go Tournament

Only 24 players this year. Sadly the event seems to be getting smaller.

Players in order of registration strength. Random within one grade. Games played as full handicap according to revised (2008) West Surrey rules (an X stone game has X<=9 on the star points, 0 komi to Black (X=0 8 komi to White), if X>9 then 10 komi to black per extra stone, clock = 50+2X/50-2X minutes, Black wins jigo. The results are not submitted to the EGF ratings scheme.

The cup went to the strongest player on 4/4 who was Alan Thornton 1d (***) from Philippe Bourrez 3k. Hugo Wainwright 20k also got 4/4. Prizes for 4/4 (**) and 3/4 (*).
