December 2001's Go Answer of the Month

Dia 1 - Black to play.

This is the problem from the 2001 West Surrey Tournament entry form.

It is fairly straight-forward.

Dia 2 - White tries to thwart Black.

If White tries to thwart Black, this sequence gets played and White loses all his stones. This is the correct answer.

As a subsidiary question – which I do not provide an answer to. What happens if White sees this coming and plays 2' at 3?
