October took me by surprise. Therefore, in order to get this page done quickly, I have lifted a problem from some AJAx presented to the top group at 1999's West Surrey teach-in.
I got it wrong last year.
There are three possible white eyes. Somehow Black has to find a way or removing two of them.
I played 1 to remove eye 'A', assuming the threat to capture the two white stones with a play at 4 would be sente forcing white to play 2' at 4. I intended then to play 3' at 2 to remove eye C as well.
When White replied with 2 I then expected to play 3 here which would "force" white to play 4' at 6, so my 5' at 4 would remove the eyes A & B.
Sadly white has a better reply in 4, which doesn't protect his two stones on the right, but instead both connects his weak point for the potential eye at B and attacks the three black stones. This makes capturing the three or the one black stone miai for the second eye.
Black now has an answer to this White 2 or, indeed, more easily to any other 2'
